September 2006 Architectural Ceramics Workshop Crew!
Sharon, Marilyn, Marguerite and  Instructor Stephani. Marguerite's t-shirt says it all!
Above: Door Surround Project : The innermost course, surrounding the door,  will be tile. the next course is  extruded trim (left and center), followed by hand pressed tiles with overlapping joints and botanical motif (above Right). The outermost part of the door surround consists of box construction  half columns which are built as a continuous form, then segmented. Before the  face slab is laid over the  inner 'skeleton', holes in the foundation slab are cut. Accessible  but  concealed screw and bolt holes are incorporated into the design, so that the surround may be  assembled without mortar. Segmenting and joinery are also  precalculated and incorporated into the design.
Working the extruder! Enhancing  and augmenting the press mold  leaf design tiles,as well as determining where cuts , joints and screw holes will be placed ,
Sectioning and numbering pieces A hardworking and happy crew.
This thing did NOT look this big on paper!
